The Peachtree City Council has made a number of important decisions this month, from awarding A Better Way Ministries with the Grand Marshal Trophy to rezoning 39 acres near Starrโs Mill school complex for residential housing growth and buying an armored tactical vehicle for the Police Department. Mayor Kim Learnard is proud to lead these and many more initiatives in support of the citizens of Peachtree City.
Mayor Kim Learnard proudly presented the Grand Marshal Trophy to A Better Way Ministries representatives at the City Council meeting on July 13. This prestigious award was given to the group for their outstanding efforts in the 4th of July Parade. Despite disapproval from some members of the audience, the Peachtree City Council voted 3-to-2 to rezone nearly 39 acres off Redwine Road near Starrโs Mill school complex from R-12 to Limited Use Residential. The 74 proposed homes will still have quarter-acre lot sizes, resulting in a density of 1.9 units per acre. This property had been a horse farm for many years until it was annexed into the city in 2020 with the R-12 zoning.
The rezoning will allow for smaller building setbacks to support a larger variety of homes and the developer Jeff Lindsey Communities has promised to build million-dollar homes of more than 3,000 square feet with as little as 10 feet total separating the side walls of neighboring houses. This is an exciting opportunity for Peachtree City that Mayor Learnard is proud to support.
The Mayor and City Council have also authorized the purchase of a BearCat armored tactical vehicle for $384,850 in order to provide the Police Department with half-inch steel armor protection against .50 cal. bullets, hand grenades and anti-personnel mines. Peachtree City is proud to offer its residents these unprecedented safety measures.
In addition, the city will invest just under $134,000 to complete the facade re-coating and restoration of City Hall, Fire Station 81 and Station 82. These efforts are sure to give the city a beautiful new look that will benefit both residents and visitors alike.
