Unlocking the Hidden Stories of Peachtree City: The Hip Pocket Anthology

Unlocking the Hidden Stories of Peachtree City: The Hip Pocket Anthology

by | Oct 25, 2023

We are thrilled to have seen the culmination of the unlikely literary collaboration between Friends of the Peachtree City Library and the Library itself, with the successful completion of the first Anthology, “Hip Pocket,” backed by author Hannah Palmer. On March 16th this year, all contributors gathered for a group photo in honor of this significant accomplishment, which was even further magnified by the successful launch of a second literary journal, “Prouty’s Anthology,” marking the 60th anniversary of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln video.

We are proud to announce the completion of the first literary journal from the joint project between Friends of the Peachtree City Library and the Peachtree City Library. This exciting new project began in 2018 when author Hannah Palmer facilitated a writers’ workshop, inspiring attendees to write stories about Peachtree City. Following an open call for submissions, twenty-eight pieces of prose and poetry were chosen for inclusion in the final Anthology, aptly named “Hip Pocket.” On March 16th, 2023, all authors, poets, and contributors to the Anthology gathered at the Peachtree City Council meeting for a group photo.

Despite the many challenges posed by Covid-19, the project was completed with remarkable speed and efficiency.

In 2022, the library brought back additional part-time staff and successfully expanded its hours. As a result, they launched their literary journal, aptly named “Prouty’s Anthology.” This was an exciting milestone for the library and all of those involved, as it celebrated the 60th anniversary of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Prouty’s Anthology was the first in Georgia, joining the ranks of other literary works published by universities such as UGA, GSU, and GCSU.

It was fitting that the first issue was devoted to MT Allen, who lived in the street with a quirky name. Prouty contacted Allen’s daughter, Tamara Moore, who contributed a poem about her mother called “The Quiet Woman.” The Anthology is available online, and all proceeds benefit the Friends of the Peachtree City Library. With immense pride, Prouty has plans to publish new volumes biennially.

With a sense of great pride, Prouty has set out to produce new volumes biennially.

The community is proud to commemorate the success of the Peachtree City Library and Friends of the Peachtree City Library joint project, ‘Hip Pocket.’ With the help of co-founder Hannah Palmer’s Writers Workshop and the unbelievable contributions of 28 authors from across the city, the Anthology showcases our area’s fantastic stories and poets. Even through the difficult times of COVID-19 and the concurrent difficulty brought to many areas, it is clear that with due teamwork, tenacity, and some luck, the past two years were not in vain. We congratulate those who made ‘Hip Pocket’ and “Prouty’s Anthology” come true and hope for continued success and serious support.
